The main objective of the Prime-Boost HIV Vaccine Phase III Trial is to see if the combined use of two different candidate vaccines to induce both arms of the body’s immune system, can protect at least half the volunteers who represent the general population from two provinces with the highest HIV/AIDS incidence in Thailand.

The Prime-Boost concept is not new in the field of medical science. Many adults have been given a “booster shot” of a vaccine administered long time age as children to help the immune system “remember” that foreign body to destroy. What is new in this prime boost study in Rayong and Chonburi provinces is the use of tw different vaccines with the aim to induce not one but both arms of the immune system to give our body two chances at fighting HIV/AIDS
